Lenten Food Appeal for the Heart to Hand charity

As in previous years we are once again appealing to the parishioners of St. Matthews to bring donations of food items for our annual Lenten Food Appeal for the Heart to Hand charity

To date, Heart to Hand have sent 9 lorries of food and humanitarian aid to Poland to the Ukrainian refugees, mostly women, children and the elderly who had to leave their country.   For all up to date news and activities check out our website at www.hearttohand.net

Heart to Hand continues to help the hungry in Ireland too.  Every day, we continue to deliver food to several food distribution centres in Dublin city and make weekly deliveries to food shelters in Athy, Carlow, Arklow and Limerick city.

This Good Friday, we are kindly requesting parishioners to bring items to the church on or before Good Friday April 7th for a morning collection on Holy Saturday April 8th. As customary, all dried/tinned foodstuffs are welcome but I’ve listed items below to help folk decide on what is considered appropriate:

  • Rice (white or brown)
  • Pasta of any kind
  • Tins of tuna fish/ sardines
  • Sugar, flour,
  • Biscuits/ nutritional bars
  • Dried milk, long life milk
  • Cereals, e.g. porridge, cornflakes, weetabix
  • Cooking oil
  • Child care items such as Pampers, sudo cream, dried formula etc.,
  • Toiletries such as toothpaste/toothbrushes/shampoo/soap etc.
  • We truly appreciate your efforts in facilitating this collection and sincere thanks for all your help.
