Pope’s Prayer Intentions For October

Pope Benedict's general prayer intention for the month of October is: "That Christians may not be discouraged by the attacks of secularized society, but with complete trust, may bear witness to their faith and hope."

His mission intention is: "That the faithful may join to their fundamental duty of prayer the support also of economic contributions to the missionary works."Feast days this week

Mon 3rd: Blessed Columba Marmion, (b. 1858), priest of Dublin diocese, Professor in Clonliffe College, and later monk and Abbot at the Abbey of Maredsous in Belgium. He is noted for his life of holiness and for his writings on the spiritual life. Beatified on 1st September 2000.
Tue 4th: St Francis of Assissi (1181-1226). Born into a wealthy merchant family, Francis left everything to follow Jesus in a life of simplicity and poverty. Others joined him and the Franciscan Order came into being. Francis is associated with a spirit of joy and freedom, and with a love of all creation. Animals are often blessed on October 4.
Thur 6th: St Bruno. Born in Cologne in Germany, Bruno served as priest and teacher in the Cathedral school of Rheims, before retiring to the mountain area near Grenoble where he founded the Carthusian Order of monks. He died in 1101.
Fri 7th: Our Lady of the Rosary. This Feast was introduced on the anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto (1571). Victory in that battle was understood as an answer to praying the Rosary.

Sick or Housebound & would like a visit

Let us know their names and we’ll try to organise a visit either in hospital or at home. There is a book in the sacristy where their name and address can be put down.

Children’s mass

As you may know Sr. Cabrini is taking a study break this year from St. Louise’s and will not be here to lead the children at the 10.30 Mass. Would you be willing to help by leading them. This involves teaching some of the younger children the hymns once a week and conducting/leading them on the Sundays they’d “be on”. If you could help or know anyone who might contact Fr. Joseph Ryan @ 6268772.
