St Matthew's Parish Notes

Mission Sunday (30th Sun Ordinary Time)
Sunday, 30th October, 2005

Questions people ask

Q. In a sermon the priest said that there is no such thing as a private sin, that every sin affected others. What about private thoughts, feelings or actions that nobody else will ever know about?
A. Since we are all members of the one body, the moral sickness of any individual person diminishes the well-being of the total body. If, as an individual, I am morally imperfect in my thoughts or feelings, it makes me less a Christian light towards others. The good side of the story is that the personal goodness of any individual benefits the world by improving the moral atmosphere of which we breathe.
