Asian Earthquake/Tsunami Collection
This special collection is to be taken up at all Masses in the archdiocese this weekend to support relief efforts for victims of Sunday's disaster.
It will replace the regular Share collection and all proceeds will be given to Trócaire for distribution through the worldwide Caritas network in affected areas. Questions people ask
Q. If Jesus was totally free from sin, why did he submit to John the Baptist’s ritual washing for the remission of sins?
A. Jesus answered: ‘It is fitting to do all that righteousness demands’. What this means is that it was right for him to submit to all that the plan of salvation demanded. He did not stand aloof to save us from a safe distance but he got into the muddy waters of humanity. Although sinless, he took the sins of humanity on himself when he suffered the injustices and violence of crucifixion. Submitting to John’s baptism foreshadowed his acceptance of the cross.

Reflections for our Young People on The Baptism of The Lord
The readings for today Isaiah42:1-4, 6-7 describes God’s chosen servant who is gentle, just, and brings healing. Psalm 28 sings the praise of The Lord of all creation. Acts 10:34-38: God sent his WORD, Jesus, to bring GOOD NEWS of peace and healing to all peoples, Jews and non-Jews alike. Matthew3:13-17: describes the baptism of Jesus and the wonderful events that followed it.
Question : Why was John reluctant to baptise Jesus? Why did Jesus insist on receiving baptism from John?
What did people see and hear as Jesus came up out of the water? What happens when a baby or adult is baptised?
Ask someone about your own baptism. Feast Days
