St Matthew's Parish Notes

Twenty Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time
Sunday, 26th September, 2004

Questions people ask
Q. Must we believe in the existence of angels? What do they do?
A. The existence of these spiritual beings has always been part of the Catholic faith and is based on the Scriptures. They come down with God's personal care as our guardians. And in our liturgy we are raised up to join with the angels in their service of glorifying God. Jesus tells us not to despise any people 'because their angels in heaven are continually in the presence of my Father in heaven' (Mt 18:10). In prayer we ask our personal guardian angel to light and guard us, to rule and guide us.
