Harvest Thanksgiving
This weekend we will celebrate Harvest Thanksgiving. (10.30 Mass in particular) . Thanking God for the great gifts that we have received.
(We also celebrate Emigrant Sunday. This time of year we extend a special invitation to all non-nationals who have come to settle in Ireland in recent years).
Questions people ask
Q. What do you think of those prayers which are supposed to guarantee a favour if said so many times and the leaflet passed on to a certain number of people?
A. Usually the words of the prayer are okay but tying it up with numbers of leaflets is superstitious nonsense. It gives religion a bad name by turning God into a slot machine who pays out when you hit the required number. Some people feel blackmailed to spread these leaflets in fear of offending God. People who leave them in churches should be charged with litter offence!
