Questions people ask
Q. The Holy Spirit is called the Advocate and the Paraclete. What do these names mean?
A. Actually the two names are really the same except that Paraclete is a Greek word and Advocate is its Latin translation. Ad-vocatus literally means one called to your side. In the legal world an advocate is one who pleads your case. Saint John applied these names to both Jesus and the Holy Spirit. These lovely names express the presence of God at our side in times of trouble.

Coping with the Pain of Abuse
By now the leaflets have been distributed to all houses in the three parishes. Hopefully you have had the chance to read it and maybe you might encourage family members to read it, including those who may be living outside the parish.

This afternoon in the big church there will be a special service praying for those affected in any way by abuse in the past.

You are welcome to come along and pray with us, the priests of the three parishes and others on this difficult topic.

Assumption Church; 3pm today, Sunday

Feastdays
Mon 31st: The Visitation. Mary visits her cousin, Elizabeth.
Tues 1st: St Justin, Martyr. Born in Samaria, early second century. He gives us the earliest description of the rite of baptism. He died, as martyr for the faith, with six companions, about 165.
Wed 2nd: Sts Marcellinus and Peter, Martyrs. Both died during the persecution of Christians under Diocletian.
Thurs 3rd: St Kevin, Abbot. A native of Leinster, he founded a monastery at Glendalough in Wicklow. He died in 618.
Fri 4th: Sts Charles Lwanga and Companions, Martyrs. Today the church honours twenty-two people, some quite young, who were killed in Uganda by order of the King because they would not abandon their Christian faith.
Sat 5th: St Boniface, Bishop and Martyr. Born in England, travelled through Germany, preaching the gospel and restoring dioceses, until his martyrdom in Friesland in 754.
