725th
anniversary of Ordination

Above photo was taken after the Saturday vigil mass. Main
celebrant was Fr PJ Madden, recently ordained. Fr PJ lived
in Woodfarm Acres and was ordained for New Orleans diocese.
In his homily Fr PJ spoke with affection about the times he,
with his wife Mary R.I.P., used to go to 6.30 Mass in St.
Matthew's and the welcome and the warmth of the people there
that helped him in the past and the people's faith helped
him on his journey to priesthood.
Fr Roy spoke after Holy Communion about looking back over
the 25 years and how God works through different experiences
that he has had and indeed how we can be open to His influence
unknown to ourselves.
Fr Seamus presented Roy with a lovely tapestry of the eagle
symbolising St John, (one of the evangelists) reflecting Fr
Roy's gifted knowledge of the gospels.
I just stood in the background and managed to get myself into
one of the photographs!

Feastdays
Mon 21st: St Aloysius Gonzaga. He was born in 1568
into a wealthy family near Mantua. At the age of seventeen he
joined the Jesuits and renounced all claim to his family's wealth.
He cared for the sick and dying, and fell victim to the plague.
He died aged 23 and is regarded as patron of youth and of those
who suffer from AIDS.
Tues 22nd: St Paulinus of Nola. He was born in Bordeaux
in 355, became Bishop of Nola in 409, and died in 431. Today
we also venerate two English saints, John Fisher and Thomas
More.
Thurs 24th: Birth of St John the Baptist. Of him Jesus
said 'of all those born there is none greater than the Baptist'.
As prophet and herald, John knew when to retire and to direct
his followers to Jesus, his cousin, the Lamb of God. John died
at the hands of King Herod.
