Feast
days during the week
Tue 17 - St Fintan was a Laois man who founded a
monastery in Clonenagh in that county. He died in AD 603. The
'Seven Founders of the Servites' are also remembered today -
seven young merchants in Florence who decided to live more perfect
Christian lives, as 'Servants of Mary'.
Sat 21 - St Peter Damien. He was a bishop who fought
against abuses of power by the clergy.
Gracious
Words - Lenten reflection for readers
Takes place on the 6 Mondays of Lent 7.30 - 9.30 from 1st
March in St Paul's Church @ Smithfield. Features Lectio Divina
on the Sunday Gospels, training in communicating the word &
prayer in the "New Icon Chapel". An ideal series for
readers. Limited to 30 throughout whole diocese so any one interested
contact sacristy immediately.
Gospel
Reflection
Today's Gospel gives us Saint Luke's version of the Beatitudes.
Here Jesus contrasts the fate of underprivileged people - the
poor, the hungry, the broken hearted and the abused - with that
of people in positions of power and wealth. Jesus is obviously
very much on the side of such people, and he would like us to
be likewise.
Question: Who do you think are the needy people in our society
today, and what does Jesus expect us to do for them?
