Twenty first Sunday of Ordinary Time
Sunday, 22nd August, 2004

RTE Television Mass

September 5th @ 11 o' clock. On that weekend there will be no 10.30 Mass or 11.30 Mass.
A few practical notes:
Congregational singing is encouraged.
All people are to be in the main body of the church (no one to be behind the altar).
For Holy Communion on both Saturday (4th) 630 Mass & 11am (5th) please come up the main aisle and by the walls and return to your seats by the middle aisles that most people do. There will be extra ministers of the Eucharist at each station. Please use them.

Feastdays
Mon 23rd: St Eugene (Eoghan) of Ardstraw, Co Tyrone, is patron saint of Derry. Today is also the feast of St Rose of Lima.
Tue 24th: St Bartholomew, Apostle. Born in Galilee, he was one of the twelve apostles. Tradition tells us that he preached the gospel in India and was martyred there.
Wed 25th: St Louis, King of France, who died during the Second Crusade, in 1270. Also St Joseph Calasanz, a Spanish saint, who is patron of students.
Fri 27th: St Monica, mother of St Augustine.
Sat 28th: St Augustine. He was born in North Africa in 354. After a wild and unsettled youth, he converted to Christianity. He later became bishop of Hippo, and a famous preacher and writer.

Age Action Ireland
Providing a training course for carers in St Mary's Parish Centre, Lucan. Eight Monday's from 20th September, 10.30 - 12.30. See notice board for more details.

There is also a carer support group providing information, etc in Civic Centre, second Tuesday of each month.

Leaving Cert Results
Well done to our young students from the parish who did so well in the Leaving Cert. Wishing them every success in whatever venture they decide upon. To those heading abroad, etc don't forget your home and your home parish.

Esker Cemetery Mass
Mass for the dead will be celebrated on Sunday 5th September @ 3pm weather permitting.
Mount Mellery - Pilgrimage - Friday 27th August
Mini-bus to Mount Mellery, Waterford leaves St Matthew's @ 9am. Bus fare €10 payable preferably in advance, only a couple of places left.
Back to school/college - Mature students
All Hallows & UCD have information on different degrees or courses that you may be interested in. These can be seen on the table at the main entrance of church.
Special Collection this weekend
This collection will be taken up throughout the diocese to provide emergency relief for the people of Darfur, Western Sudan.
This special collection will replace the Share collection.
Exposition of Blessed Sacrament
Every Friday in Blessed Sacrament Chapel: 10.30 - 7.30. Do come along even if it's for a couple of minutes.
