November: A time to remember our dead
The first week of November is considered a special week in remembering our dead. We make out our annual list of our deceased relatives and friends and leave them in to the church to be remembered at Mass on the First Friday of every month. We visit the graves to pray for our dead (Procession Next Saturday). Plenary indulgence - confession/communion/ pray for pope's intentions (etc).

Annual Mass for Deceased parishioners
For those who died during the past 12 months. This Mass will be celebrated at 7.30pm on this Friday 7th. At this Mass families of those parishioners and those buried from St. Matthew's are especially invited to attend. Others are welcome too and will have an opportunity to remember their recently deceased.

Pope's intentions for November
The Holy Father's prayer intention for the month of November is: "That the Christians of the West may constantly increase their knowledge and appreciation of the spirituality and liturgical traditions of the Oriental Churches.
His missionary intention is: "That the Church in America, celebrating the Second American Missionary Congress in Guatemala, may be inspired to more generous evangelising activity even beyond her own frontiers."

Feasts during the Week
A plenary indulgence can be gained by visiting a church and praying the Our Father and Creed. Until 8th November, a plenary indulgence can be gained each day by visiting a cemetery.
Mon 3rd: St Malachy (1094-1148), archbishop of Armagh
The Irish Church was not in a healthy state around Malachy's time, and he set out to reform it. Ireland's monasteries were often ruled by lay leaders, who gave more attention to money and land than spiritual matters. Malachy was impressed with the monasteries being founded in Europe at that time and tried to set one up at Bangor, following those ideals. He failed.
Malachy later became bishop of Armagh, where he tried to separate the spiritual role of archbishop from the control of lands and revenues. To continue the reform, he introduced the Cistercians to Ireland.
Tue 4th: St Charles Borromeo. Patron of catechists.
Thurs 6th: All Saints of Ireland. All the holy Irish men and women of every generation are honoured.
Fri 7th: St Willibrord (First Friday)
