Vocations Sunday:
Questions People Ask
Q. In the light of all the adverse publicity, would you choose priesthood as a career if you were starting out again?

A. The life that the Lord has given me as a priest has been wonderfully fulfilling. Obviously there are family joys that one misses but the compensations more than make up for the losses. To speak the words of consecration or absolution in the Lord's name is an immense privilege. To be a reminder of God's love in peoples' lives is a humbling experience. Yes, I'd happily do it all again.

Fr Silvester O'Flynn OFM Cap

Small Faith Communities
There are many small groups in our parish who meet not only in Advent and Lent but continue right through the year.

At our meeting with Fr. James 0 Halloran SDB before Xmas it was decided to bring representatives of these groups together at a later date.
This meeting will be held in the Parish Centre on Thursday 15th May, 8.00pm. It will be helpful to hear from the different groups. We can learn from each other, and consider how these gatherings for prayer might be enhanced.
Two people are invited from each group. The success of the meeting depends on each prayer group being represented. The meeting is from 8.00-9.00 with some refreshments afterwards.

Feasts during the week
Mon 12th: Saints Nereus and Achiellus. Two soldiers who converted to Christianity, renounced warfare and then suffered martyrdom for their faith.
Tues 13th: Our Lady of Fatima is honoured by the universal Church for the first time today. This was traditionally the feast of St Julian of Norwich.
Wed 14th: St Matthias: Appointed as an apostle to fill the place of Judas.
Thurs 15th: St Carthage (or Mochuta) was a Kerryman who studied at Bangor. He founded a monastery at Rahan in 595, but because of opposition moved southwards, to Lismore, where he died in 638.
Fri 16th: St Brendan was born in Kerry but studied under Finian at Clonard. His name is associated with Ardfert and Mount Brandon, but he also founded a monastery at Clonfert, Co Galway, where he died in 578.
