St Matthew's Parish Notes

Twenty second Sunday of the year
Sunday, 31st August, 2003

New Coadjutor Arch Bishop for Dublin
"There are no easy times to be the spiritual leader of a great diocese"- Coadjutor Archbishop Martin
Coadjutor Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has said, "Dublin and this diocese are very much in my genes. It is good to be back." He was speaking at a Liturgy to present him to the clergy and faithful of the Archdiocese of Dublin yesterday (Saturday), in St Mary's Pro-Cathedral.
"Many of those who wrote to me said that I assumed my mission in the diocese 'in difficult times'," he said. "My reaction has been, over and over again, to say within myself that there are no easy times to be the spiritual leader of a great diocese. The challenge of being a spiritual leader requires a depth of spirituality and spiritual discernment which it would be presumptuous for anyone to feel they possess. I look to the community of the diocese and to the wealth of Irish spirituality to make up for my own inadequacy."

Basic Christian Communities
Fr. Jim O Halloran and Rev Ian Frazer will come to our Parish Centre on Wed 3rd September (8pm) to share with us their experience of involvement with small Christian communities around the world.
We hope that those who met Fr O Halloran in Advent, and many others from the various prayer groups in the parish will join us for the evening.

Explore Your Faith
From this September, on Tuesday nights in Maynooth a 2-year course covering different topics that should be of interest to all.
