Your Faith From
this September, on Tuesday nights in Maynooth a 2-year course covering different
topics that should be of interest to all. The future of our church will need
lay people having a much greater role in leadership positions in parishes. We
need names/ numbers of people interested in this course. Interest throughout the
Deanery is quite strong and there are only limited places.
If you are
interested or could suggest someone who might be suitable let any of the priests
know as soon as you can.
Saint
Pio Devotions
"Saint Pio of Pietrelcina" devotions will take
place on Friday in connection with the Evening Mass at 7.30 finishing with Benediction.
Feast-days
during the week Wed 27th: St. Monica. Monica was born to Christian parents,
in what is now Algeria. Her parents arranged for her to marry a pagan called Patricius,
a man with a hot temper. After years of patient love on Monica's part, he became
a Christian before he died. She had less success with her son, Augustine. It
took much prayer before he left behind a life of robbing, lying and casual sex.
But he eventually became a great saint and Monica was made the patron saint of
mothers. Thur 28th. St. Augustine. Born 354. Converted in the year
387. Bishop of Hippo. Fri 29th. The Beheading of St. John the Baptist. Are
we willing to die for our beliefs as John the Baptist did? Sat 30th:
St Fiacra An Irish saint, who went abroad to a hermitage near Breuil where he
remained until his death around 670. He kept a good vegetable garden at his hermitage
and is patron saint of gardeners.
