Community
Addiction Studies Course (CASC)
A course to enable people living or working in the community
to become more effective when they encounter drug/alcohol abuse
or addiction
Areas covered include: Pharmaceutical information on drugs and
their effects; Process of addiction; How addiction affects individuals,
families, communities; How individuals and communities can respond;
Field visits to drugs services; Individual project work.
Start date: Tuesday, 7th October, 2003 in the Ballyfermot Resource
Centre from 7 pm. until 10 pm. (3 hours each week plus one working
weekend away)

Applicants are requested to take part in an interview before
being selected for a place

Feast-days
during the week
Monday 11th: St Clare. This year we celebrate the
750th anniversary of the death of St Clare. She founded the
"Poor Clares" Patron saint of television.
Big celebrations in "Merchant's Quay Church" (Adam
& Eve's). 12 noon Mass with Sister Ann Leahy fsdm speaking
at that Mass.
Tuesday 12th: St Muredach founded the church of Killala
and is the patron of that north Mayo/west Sligo diocese. Two
other Irish saints are honoured today: St Attracta and St Lelia.
Wednesday 13th: St Fachtna. He was born in west Cork
and was fostered by St Ita. He founded the monastery at Ros
Ailithir (Rosscarbery) and is patron of the Diocese of Ross.
Thursday 14th: St Maximilian Kolbe was martyred in Auschwitz.
A Franciscan friar, he gave his life for another.
Friday 15th: The Assumption of Our Lady into heaven at
the end of her life is celebrated today (a holyday of obligation,
see below for Mass times).
Saturday 16th: St Stephen, First king of Hungary &
its patron saint.
